First-gig-of-the-tour syndrome

So many things went wrong yesterday, maybe it's best we forget about that one - Chichester can't come fast enough!

At least the first one's out of the way now though, plus Mandog got to break in his new tank top, so it's not all bad news.

Mewsic that i've been liking...

Erm, I'm making a list of music I've heard so far this year that I've liked. Some famous, some not so.

Some are albums or EP's, some our single tracks. There's no boundaries here.

I think I will update this list as and when I remember something good!

Check this lot out using your music stealing/previewing weapon of choice. I'm more of a Spotify man myself :)

Regina Spektor - Far
Mew - Introducing Palace Players
Vienna Ditto - Dang
Cats and Cats and Cats - A Boy Called Haunts
Dry the River - The Chambers and the Valves
Tim and Sam's the Tim and Sam Band - Summer Solstice
Lady GaGa - The Fame

Cats podcast

Hey team,

Our friends Cats and Cats and Cats have recorded a podcast for Small Town America Records and were lovely enough to play 'Holding Hearts' towards the end. Yay!

Their record is due out in September, make sure you catch them live as they are sensational!

If you plan it carefully, you'll probably catch us and them on the same bill sometime soon ;-)

Hey team,

Hurrah for Brighton and all who squashed into a tiny space and made us feel like kings!

That's the first time we've played 'Hopscotch' live so we have now played everything from the forthcoming 'Oftentimes' album.

Speaking of playing live, we are playing at the Louisiana in Bristol THIS SATURDAY with The Northwestern and Tripwires.

We will be playing 'Hopscotch' again but this time with vocals. Two vocals, in fact. Which means one of two things: either Simon is singing again or we have a guest vocalist...

Advance tickets from www.bristolticketshop.com

This is our last show outside of London until September, so make the journey to the West Country for what promises to be blinder!

Then it's back into the studio. Some more exciting stuff coming your way soon...

Hi all!

Here's an update of what's happening in Freakshow Land.

Last week we enjoyed ourselves playing at Katie Fitzgerald's, Stourbridge. Thanks to any of you who came along and gave us such a great reception. We always have a great time there!

The album's ticking along but there is still lots to do! Strings should be all finished next week, then it'll be Tim's turn to add vocals before we tidy up any loose ends. We're practically buzzing with anticipation about it and are very proud of how it sounds so far. Watch this space for more news!

We will all meet sometime this week to work on some new material, including a cover!! So look out for that as well...

Upcoming shows:
The Druids, Brighton this Sat, as part of the Nice Weather for Airstrikes Festival. It's free. Need I say more?
Bristol Louisiana Sat 30th May supporting The Northwestern (ex Hope of the States). This will be a stonking show so do not miss it! Also playing are Tripwires, who are good friends of ours.

That's all for now!
Love

Thanks to everyone who came to this weekends shows in Reading and Chichester, we hope you enjoyed it, you certainly seemed like you did!

The venue manger in Reading gave us free drinks because we looked angry during sound check - we neglected to tell her we always look annoyed and feasted on free cider. Hurrah!

Album update:

We are continuing work on the album this weekend, so far we have drums, bass, trumpet, cello and violin committed to tape. So it's guitars next!

The artwork is still in development but is coming on leaps and bounds, we're working on something very special, you're going too love it!

Hope you are all well,

Track from first ever EP uploaded!

Hello,

To celebrate the recording of our new record, i've uploaded a song from our FIRST EVER DEMO!

'The Horrible Truth' was recorded in 2006.

it was recorded as part of what ended up being a 6 or 7 track record that we of course made by hand :-)

We made them to order so please don't ask us for copies! There used to be a download but i don't think that still exists.

i'd upload something from 0.008% but i know you've all already illegally downloaded it anyway :-)

We have a few other 'old' gems kurking around, you might get another, unless simon stops me from uploading them :-)

enjoy our youthfullness

Home demos saved!

Hurrah!

i thought my computer had died and gone to jesus, but i have saved it!

along with 4 years worth of home demos, including the very first versions of our new stuff: we are the undercurrents, new houses, holding hearts, jacob and i can feel his heartbeats. Includes drumming by the folky folkster matthew taylor.

NOT the portsmouth midfielder. The acoustic jangler.

We've made progress!

Hurrah,

For two reasons:

a) mulled wine
b) the recording of full band demos

So we set up with our chum Erik on sunday night and recorded 6 songs that are up for inclusion on disc one of our new EP 'Oftentimes':

Jacob - Instrumental inspired by a mythical(?) tv character who lives in a shed that moves. Possibly through time travel.

She's got a shooter - An 8 minute epic about dissarming your loved one. We often end with this.

I can feel his heartbeats - The single, the 3 minute, throw away, pop sensation of 2009.

Our bodies - A love song. Huge sounding, almost uplifting, with a beautiful trumpet melody in the chorus.

You cut me out - A dark, brooding, elbow-esque 6 minutes of balladry.

Unitled, unfinished new song - Math pop meets Sigur Ros. Get your dancing shoes on for this one. You're gonna wanna boogie!

It's all still a bit rough around the edges, but it's certainly getting there.

Hopefully this keeps us on schedule for a May/June release...

Home of the G

Checkin' it,

We are playing in the Hobgoblin in Staines on 15th March. Put it in your diaries!

We had some pictures taken on monday night. Make up and everything. Jack looked like he'd been hanging out with the Topshop crowd, all orange cheeks he was! Pics to follow next week I believe.

In other news, if you live in Reading you should make your way down to the Oakford Social Club on Sunday. Fan Farlo and Godwits are playing, both are stupidly good, it's free. I hope to be there. With bells on.

Oh yeah, and we've named the new record. We just need to finish writing it.

The derailment of plans

Hey up,

Everything is delayed. EVERYTHING.

You'll have to wait, it needs to be better. It needs to be more sorrowful. It needs more time to breathe.

It won't be an album. But it will be tied with string.

And there's a 50% chance of candle wax.

There's a 10% chance of positivity.

There's an 85% chance of nothing, no one, no how.

It will make you c r y.

I don't want to watch casualty

A couple of things

HI!

These are they:

Thank you to Oxford. What a lovely way to play our first show for 3 months. It was so lovely to see so many people and we thank you for the reception you gave us. And that was our first ever encore! We'll remember last night for a while. With so much writing and rehearsing for the new record and so many changes afoot it was nice to finally get out and play!

Guildford - We are now coming on the 5th Feb. Construction of the mega dome has been postponed until further notice so we'll be playing at the Boiler Room instead. It's an Ep launch for the headline band so we'll post a link to their stuff in the next few days.

Lost. It freaking back man!

Heads up to Ute who we all agreed were fantastic last night. Some people just don't know a good thing when they hear it...

22 January 2009
